Custom Disc Springs Designed for Your Application
SPIROL has the expertise to design and manufacture custom Disc Springs, including Disc Spring prototypes, to meet your precise application requirements. When you involve SPIROL early in your design process, many requirements can be fulfilled with our standard Disc Springs, saving you time and reducing costs.
For applications that require a Disc Spring that fall outside the DIN 16983 standard product range, SPIROL’s Application Engineering Team will collaborate with you to develop a custom Disc Spring solution tailored to your performance, dimensional, and environmental requirements.
With decades of experience in Disc Spring design and manufacturing, SPIROL can produce components with custom diameters, thicknesses, force ratings, and deflection characteristics to match your application requirements.
We offer a wide selection of materials, including 301 stainless steel, 17-7 stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel. Additional materials can also be evaluated based on your unique requirements. A variety of finishes — such as mechanical zinc, black oxide, and other industry-standard coatings—are available to optimise performance and durability.

SPIROL's Disc Spring Offering
SPIROL’s Disc Spring offering consists of 1) Disc Springs per DIN EN 16983 (formerly DIN 2093) , 2) SPIROL standard Disc Springs with outside diameters ranging from Ø8mm to Ø200mm designed around the standardised calculations of DIN EN 16984 (formerly DIN 2092), 3) Austenitic Stainless Steel Disc Springs and 4) Pre-Stacked Disc Springs.
Application Success Stories
Custom Disc Spring for Pre-Assembled Stack in a Surgical Torque Limiter
Customer Challenge:
A medical device manufacturer approached SPIROL to help to reduce costs and simplify the assembly process of a Disc Spring stack used in a high-speed torque limiter surgical instrument.
SPIROL solution:
- SPIROL’s Application Engineers reviewed the manufacturer’s performance requirements and assembly challenges with the current Disc Springs while considering the cost-reduction initiative and designed a custom Disc Spring.
- The custom Disc Spring was designed with a higher cone height than the standard Disc Spring which created greater force in a smaller area.
- This enabled the stack to contain two (2) fewer Disc Springs than the manufacturer’s original design. With fewer parts in each stack, an immediate cost saving was realised.
- The custom stack design lowered stresses in the final assembly leading to longer life cycles for the device.
Mechanical Clutch in Heavy Duty Right Angle Drill
Customer Challenge:
The lead engineer at a prominent hand and power tool company contacted SPIROL for help determining the best Disc Spring design for a new lightweight, compact, and portable Heavy Duty Right Angle Drill.
SPIROL Solution:
- SPIROL Engineering designed two special Disc Springs stacked in series to meet the specific force and deflection requirements.
- Disc Springs offer a higher load capacity in less space as compared to conventional coil springs which enables the designer to make the tool more compact.
- Unlike Belleville Washers that are mostly used in static applications, Disc Springs provide unparallelled predictability, reliability and fatigue life in highly dynamic applications.
- By partnering with SPIROL and incorporating our recommendation, the customer minimised costly development time and confidently launched their new high-quality drill to the market.
